Quadrant 1 is urgent and important.
Quadrant 3 is urgent but not important.
Quadrant 4 is neither urgent nor important.
Then there’s Quadrant 2: work that’s really important but not urgent. Strategic planning. Innovation. Revenue and growth. The work that actually moves business forward.
Most executives have a Quadrant 2 wish list. But there’s never time. Teams are stretched thin, and delivery crawls.
But, roughly 10 to 25% of most teams’ time goes toward activities that could be repurposed for Quadrant 2, important work.
You don’t need more hours. You need to reclaim your existing bandwidth that’s currently buried in Quadrants 3 and 4. Strategic work isn’t impossible. It’s just crowded out by everything else.
